Pros*

Good royalties in theory (brought down by very high printing costs).

You can buy your book paying only your printing costs.

Lots of control as far as your design is concerned.

Cons*

Setup fee ranges from expensive to extremely expensive depending on the package (and that's not counting typesetting).

Retail prices are not competitive.

You must supply your own cover and layout or pay a rather hefty additional fee.

Printing costs are very high (over $7.00 for a 200 pages book using their least expensive choices)

Unless you buy their most expensive package distribution is almost non-existent.

Additional Comments*

Trafford is based in Canada and this may have a significant impact on your shipping and handling costs, depending on where you live, so this aspect must be kept in mind. They do have an office in NC, but they don't specify where they do the actual printing.

The $10.00 handling fee in orders of less than 50 copies means that buying a few copies can be extremely expensive, but buying large quantities is very affordable. Their printing costs appear to be somewhat higher than those of other publishers (Click here to go to a printing cost comparison).
