Questions, questions and more questions

When will my site be ready?

That depends on a number of factors like how much work I have at any given time and what kind of site you are talking about. If I have no previous commitments and it is a small site it could be ready within 2-3 days of your approval of the basic design... who needs sleep anyway?

When you contact me I will provide you with an estimate of how long it will take. I do not make any promises, but I do meet over 95% of my deadlines (if there is an unexpected problem I'll try to let you know).

What kinds of sites are your specialty?

I design sites for individual authors for the most part, since I am familiar with the elements such a site requires in order to be successful and therefore it is the area I feel most comfortable making suggestions. I also do localizations (English/Spanish) and I am currently working on some virtual galleries for artists.

Are these samples templates?

Not really, more like guidelines. They can be combined, and each site is designed independently (even if all the samples currently contain the exact same information). They are intended mostly to solve a communication problem. They make it easier for me to understand what you want your site to look like, and they may also provide you with some ideas. Of course, if you want you are free to ask for something similar to design X with a specific theme.

All over the internet I've seen plenty of sites with a left border. Could you design a site that has no frames but features a right border instead?

Such a site would certainly look different. Sure, no problem, and I can design it so that screen resolution won't be a problem either. In fact my left border designs can handle any resolution at all. No one will ever find a second border running down the middle of the screen.

I noticed that there is a list of things you do and things you don't do, why?

I believe in designing simple sites. Sure you can add plenty of special effects, but the truth is that they rarely add much to a site, and that anything that requires a plug-in or a reasonably modern browser may make your site inaccessible to some people. The one exception to this rule are frames, because they tend to keep updating costs down, they also make expanding a site a lot easier, and since I am an author I understand the need to retain a certain freedom when it comes to adding new titles to one's site without turning the whole design upside down.

What would I get if I were to request a template?

You would basically receive one blank page with backgrounds and logos, as well as a place-holder for a navigation bar (if you want one). You can then use this basic design as the basis for all your pages.

If you want your site to feature frames you would receive at least three files (the basic frameset and a template for each of the frames themselves). You would also receive a file explaining what the name of each frame is.

For an additional fee per page I can also create a "mock site" that is fully functional, links and all, in which you just have to add your content.

Do I have to provide my own graphics?

Yes, you are responsible for providing your own content and that includes graphics, however I can design a button set and a banner for you, with the theme of your choice for an additional fee.

Why is there an additional fee for a links page?

Organizing these pages is quite complicated and time-consuming. I do allow for a reasonable number of external links on each page (25) with no additional charges, but I'd much rather charge an additional fee for a page with an unusual number of links than increase the price for the average page.

What about updates?

If you want me to update your site I will charge you the regular fee for each new page that you want to add, or each page you wish to make significant changes to. In addition to this You will have to pay 50% of the design fee for each existing page that must undergo minor changes (this covers updating the navigation bar mostly). You are obviously free to update your own site. You don't have to hire me to do it for you. Your site is yours.

Do you submit my site to search engines as part of your service?

I will make an initial submission, but search engines take a while to reflect those and some glitches may interfere with some of them. If you OK it I will also feature a link to your site, such a link will also help point search engines to your site.

Do I have to feature a link back to your site?

It would be appreciated, but it is certainly not required. It is your site and my fee covers my services. This decision is entirely up to you.

Can you recommend a good host?

I can recommend a host depending on your needs, but I can't promise that there won't be unpleasant surprises. In my experience I have found ebizalive.net to be quite reliable, they offer a lot of features and control, have affordable prices and their customer support staff is actually supportive when it comes to inexperienced web masters.

Can you upload my site for me?

Uploading a site is not a complicated process and I am more than willing to do it, however in order to do this I would need the password to your site, because of this you may prefer doing it yourself.
