Services Available (as well as a few tips and guidelines)

I provide an affordable web design service that is intended mostly for self-published authors, struggling artists and professionals who want to promote their services. I do prefer to keep things simple so there are some restrictions as to what kinds of sites I am willing to design.

On the other hand I am also aware that many, if not most, of the people I work with have never had a site before. If you are considering your first site, and before you get carried away, here you have some suggestions

Some basics:

Stick to good, old-fashioned HTML. It may not seem to be the trendy thing to do, but it is the one that all browsers recognize, and the one less likely to crash someone's computer.

Graphics take a long time to load. Try to find a balance between a really flashy design and one that loads quickly.

It is possible to add a background sound to a website. A cute melody to set the mood may be nice for about 20 seconds, but after that it tends to get annoying. Also keep in mind that you have no way of knowing where your visitors are. Background music is NOT welcome in libraries and other such places.

Still on the subject of sounds. You may also include a sound file as a greeting without it playing in a continuos loop. Once again this may cause problems in some circumstances. Let's just say that a wolf howling as you enter a site may be a good idea in some instances, if it fits your content, but it may turn out to be physically painful for someone who happens to have a cat sitting on his lap (I still have the scars).

Services I provide:

I will provide you with a clean design that is pleasing, functional and easy to navigate.Your site will be custom made to meet your needs.

I can include text, graphics, GIF animations and sounds (if you insist) in your site. I can also add links to PDF files and other downloadable materials.

I can design a button set for your site.

I will submit your site to various search engines and I may also add a link to it to help point robots to your site.

I can upload your site for you, but to do this I would need your password, so you may want to do it yourself.

I can add a counter to your site, but once again that would require a password, and arranging for such a counter would be up to you. If you are using a commercial host you will almost certainly have access to some sort of stats as part of your host's service. Depending on the system used these stats can be quite detailed and they offer far more information than a counter would.

Services I DON'T provide:

Java, Flash and pretty much anything requiring a plug-in, cgi, databases, dynamic content etc.

Payment methods:

You can pay using PayPal (this allows you to use most major credit cards as well). Since each project is billed independently and there are no fixed figures a shopping cart system wouldn't work, therefore I use the following method:

You contact me and submit your files, we agree on a design fee for your project and I e-mail you a request for half of that amount once you've approved a non-functional basic design (in the form of a snapshot). When I receive that down payment I create your website and upload it temporarily to a WIP section. Once you approve that final design I'll send you a request for the second half of the payment, and once that payment is received I will send you the files or I will upload your site to a server of your choice.
